Back in March, when the enormity of the COVID-10 crisis became evident, my immediate reaction was - how can we help? My current business focuses on the health of animals, but my previous career was spent in human healthcare. The Mixlab team is headquartered in New York City and we’re deeply embedded in the community, feeling the impact of the pandemic all around us.
Mixlab is the first modern veterinary pharmacy that focuses on creating custom medications and delightful experiences for pets, pet parents, and veterinarians. My pharmacy team is composed of highly talented and experienced pharmacists, technicians, care specialists, and couriers, and our lab facility was built from the ground up with the latest compounding technology to create the highest quality medications. When news came out about the alarming shortage of hand sanitizer, the answer was clear. As soon as the official guidance from the FDA was announced, we scrambled to source all the right ingredients and supplies from our distributors with whom we’d built strong relationships. Once we had our first batch ready, the whole team collaborated to identify the frontline responders in need, and we started making deliveries all over the city with the Mixlab personal touch we have honed over the years. The team derived tremendous pride and joy applying that personal touch to a new and critical context.
After the enthusiastic responses from our first delivery, we knew we had to make the most of this opportunity, and have continued to produce and distribute fresh batches wherever we’ve identified a need, including to hospitals, police stations, fire departments, and homeless shelters.
It’s been so gratifying to be able to use our resources and expertise to give back to the brave, dedicated people working so hard during this extremely stressful time, and I’m incredibly proud of my team for coming together in such an impactful way. As the COVID-19 fight continues, we too will continue to help however we can.
